The Mississauga neighbourood of Applewood East is located on the western border of Toronto. The eastern border of Applewood follows the Etobicoke Creek, between Burnhamthorpe Rd. and Dundas St. and on the west Dixie Rd.
To the north is the East Mississauga Neighbourhood of Rockwood Village to the west is the Toronto West Etobicoke neighbourhood of Markland Wood. There are several other Applewood areas including Applewood Hills, Applewood Heights, which are described in Applewood West, and Applewood Acres. Proximity to Toronto and affordability of diverse housing options make Applewood a great place to live.
In the early 1960's Cadillac Fairview began to develop the lands south of Burnhamthorpe along Fieldgate Dr. This new development offered affordable semi detached and detached homes in a variety of styles including bungalows, splits and full 2 storey dwellings. Some models even included ensuite baths, a very modern idea for the times. A $14,000 investment at in 1964, is now valued around $500,000.

More recent development in the area includes upscale towns, semis and a few detached homes built by Dunpar, located along Burnhamthorpe Rd. at Ponytrail Dr.
The Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, houses an indoor and outdoor ice rink, basketball court and also offers a variety of individual interest programs. The new Burnhamthorpe Library is located at Burnhamthorpe and Dixie and offers meeting rooms and a theatre. Fleetwood Park is located at the Burnhamthorpe border with Etobicoke, and of course, it is just a short drive to Centennial Park in Etobicoke which offers a wide variety of outdoor and indoor recreational facilities including skating rinks, indoor swimming pool, picnic facilities, Go Carts and a golf course, driving range and mini golf.

Premium properties along the north east section of the area, along Ponytrail, border the Etobicoke Creek and The Markland Golf Course and sell above $800,000.
